Alright, so This Is Tripper is the brand new fresh album from Tripper Getem that dropped today. You may remember his album I posted and reviewed 6 months back or so, entitled Alone In The Dark: Last Boy On Earth. Now if you checked that album out and you dug it, you will love this album even more. If you checked it out and you weren't feeling it, you should definitely give this album a spin. This Is Tripper blows AITD out of the water (Not that I didn't enjoy that album, I thought it was great). This Is Tripper seems very much more consistent compared to AITD. All the songs seem to mesh together well, every time I start up the album with the Eminem-esque flow on For The Night, I've gotta keep listening. The beats are also better for the most part, most of which have great basslines that sounds like they could've been on the Marshall Mathers LP. Although this album has it's hard tracks, it also has a few catchy poppier tracks, such as the single Activate My Swag, If You're Down, and I've Told Myself. Activate My Swag has that "club" feel to it, and the lyrics will be stuck in your head long after the first couple listens. It reminds me a bit of Soulja Boy's Crank That. If You're Down is much more of a lovey dovey type track, the kind you would put on a mix cd for your lady. I've Told Myself has that "born for radio play" sound to it, with hooky lines from Cryptic Wisdom. Another one of the poppier tracks is the first single off the album, Above It All, where Tripper shows off a little Soulja Boy influence again. One of my favorite tracks on the album is Knuckle Up, it has that "fuck shit up" thug mentality to it, with the repeated line of "Knuckle up bitch" as well as other violent lyrical themes. I feel that Yung Satch's part in the song definitely fits in well too. Then soon comes LyriKILL, another Eminem-esque track. This would have to be another one of my favorite tracks. I don't have much to say about it other than that I think it's great and it fits perfect as part of the middle of the album, it keeps you interested still. Haze is the next great track, with a beat reminiscent of beats from Tripper's 2009 hit Mixtape Alien Muzilk. On this song he drops some memorable lines like "I'm hot like wasabi/so bitch don't fuckin try me/Lookin like Rosa Parks/Cause all them dudes behind me". One of my favorite lines on the album. As you hink the album is coming to a close, the song Far From Fiction pops up. This has to be the best song on the album, with the smoove flow over the heavy beat. Opening with the line "Even B.I.G. had haters/so I'm not even stressin it/I'm just stayin staying true/to the gift that god blessed me with" then progressing into my favorite line "Ahead of my time/call me a fuckin Dreamcast, and then a reference drop to Antoine Dodson that made me burst into laughter the first time I heard the track. Far From Fiction basically is Tripper's reaction to his haters, letting them know he doesn't spit fake shit 24/7 on his tracks. The track serves as a great closure to the album, before Respect The Flow (Hold Up) and then a bonus track after.
I don't exactly like giving out "number ratings", but I can say this is Tripper's best release to date. I'd recommend it to anyone into Hip-hop. Download this ace album, sit back, and understand that "Whether you like it or not, This Is Tripper."
